Over the past two decades, Professor Possover has developed a new medical specialty, "Neuropelveology," which focuses on the nerves of the pelvis, and has also created the "LION procedure." It is exceptional and very rare in the history of medicine for a single individual to develop not only an entire medical discipline on their own but also a revolutionary therapeutic method. He has transcended the boundaries of his specialty, creating a new branch in a previously neglected area of medicine, that of pelvic nerves. Furthermore, he developed the laparoscopic technique for implanting neurostimulators in the pelvic nerves—the LION procedure—to initially treat functional bladder voiding disorders and pelvic neuropathic pain caused by nerve damage. This first step allowed him to take the leap into treating paralysis, a field far removed from gynecology.
With the establishment of the International Society of Neuropelveology by Professor Possover in 2014, he developed a comprehensive scientific and educational framework to best disseminate this discovery to the entire medical community while adhering to the required scientific and ethical guidelines. This entire innovation was only possible due to his great perseverance over the past 20 years, against all the expected resistance—a gynecologist working in a field that is not his own, paraplegiology.
Professor Possover's professional achievements are now recognized and appreciated by the global gynecological and neurosurgical communities.
