Through a small incision in the navel, a laparoscope is inserted - an instrument with a tiny camera and light - that makes the endometriosis lesions visible. If cell accumulations are found, they can be removed in the same procedure using fine surgical instruments that are inserted through further incisions.
Endometriosis can affect women throughout their fertile life, from the beginning of the first menstrual period to before menopause. Most patients find the diagnosis a relief - they finally have certainty and proof that the pain is not imaginary. Since endometriosis is a benign but chronic disease, repeated interventions may be necessary.
